Adopt a Path

Members of Sandbach Footpath Group are encouraged to adopt a local path by walking it to ensure that it is in good order, identified by waymarks and not blocked by encroaching vegetation. Members may, with authorisation from Cheshire East Council (CEC), provide waymarks and trim back vegetation to keep the path open. Volunteers are then protected by CEC insurance and if a landowner challenges a volunteer the authorisation can be produced. The insurance and authorisation is only applicable on PRoW, not on permissive paths, such as Brook Wood or Dingle Wood.

To apply for the authorisation please contact Public Rights of Way (PRoW):
prow@cheshireeast.gov.uk
saying you are a member of SFG and you need the application form.
CEC PRoW will send you a letter of authority for you to show in case you are questioned by a landowner or other interested person.
Please carry the letter with you whenever you do any work on a CEC PRoW.
